Electric Power Generator

Until the 1990s the electric power industry was dominated by large utilities with overall authority over all activities of generation, transmission, dispatch and distribution system of power within its service territory assigned. The organizational structure of these utilities is known as utility companies vertically integrated, and are guaranteed by government regulators the right to be the sole provider of electric service in an assigned geographic region and were, in turn, the obligation provide electricity to everyone in the assigned territory.

Since the 1990 utilities worldwide have been undergoing a reform process of the organization to break down the vertical structures and establish business incentives in the generation, transmission, distribution and control system of power generators. The main objectives of the reforms of the power generator is achieved through a separation between production and sale of electricity and network operations. Under the deregulation process of vertical integration generation, transmission and distribution system operations power transformers are separated into independent activities. Generation companies to sell power stations through competitive long-term contracts with customers or by tender short-term supply of energy in the spot market alternator current. Transportation, including dispatch and system control function remains a monopoly, because of the nature of the transmission business current transformers.

To ensure equal conditions for electric power generators and customers access to the transmission network, the transport network operator is required to be independent of other market participants. Independent System Operator (ISO) and the Transmission System Operator (TSO) has acquired a central coordinating role and carries out the important responsibility of providing ancillary services to ensure system reliability and security.
